Abstract

This article examines the international ranking performance of private universities in Astana as a factor in enhancing their global competitiveness. Five universities were selected as the objects of the study: K. Kulazhanov Kazakh University of Technology and Business, Turan-Astana University, Esil University, Astana International University, and A.K. Kussayinov Eurasian Humanities Institute. The main indicators of analysis include international partnerships, participation in global rankings (QS, uniRank), the proportion of international students, and publication activity (H-index, international publications).

The research results demonstrate a direct relationship between the level of internationalization and competitiveness in the global educational market. Astana International University shows the highest level of activity, including representation in the QS Asia ranking and a high H-index. Esil University and Turan-Astana University are actively developing international exchange programs and cooperation with foreign universities; however, the share of international students remains limited. KazUTB and EHI demonstrate minimal indicators of internationalization and publication activity.

The findings confirm that the development of international partnerships, an increase in the number of international students, and publications in international journals are key factors in improving the global competitiveness of private universities. Recommendations are proposed for Kazakhstani universities to strengthen their visibility and attractiveness in the international education market through internationalization strategies.
